Curious birth dates: The wife of C. P. Mason presented her husband with a girl on Sunday, the 29th of February. Because this is a leap year the child will never again have a birthday on Sunday for 116 years. Farmer Treadway was born on the 29th of February and was 64 years old on Sunday... He insists that he was born on the 28th so he can accept an invitation to dinner each year on his birthday. The sly old farmer gets two invitations this time, one Saturday and one on Sunday, and accepted both.

120 YEARS AGO

To be married: The eldest daughter of Theodore Winters to Mr. J. M. Gregory of San Francisco. Mr. Winters' (family is an excellent one to select a wife from). Mr. Winters is a typical Nevada citizen, a pioneer of the sagebrush... who came to Nevada thirty years ago.

70 YEARS AGO

Movie "Virginia City" - will be premiering at the Reno theater. Admission is $1.10 a person.

Members of the city trustees, Lions, 20-30, Rotary, Leisure Hour and American Legion gave approval to the proposal to have the city represented by a float in the parade in Reno preceding the premiere of the motion picture.

Washington: A new Census Bureau study ranks Nevada 12th in the nation in per capita income for the year 1987 with the average annual income $12,603.

Carson High School senior class will qualify for the new Millennium Scholarships if they maintain their grades. The scholarships are worth up to $10,000.

• Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
