Nevada State Parks invites the public to a free introductory course on geocaching at Washoe Lake State Park on July 31. Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt where participants use hand-held global positioning system devices to track hidden stashes in a location designated by latitude and longitude.
Washoe Lake State Park has invited Todd Wilson, a local geocaching expert, to help teach the basics of geocaching and to help participants develop GPS skills. Participants are asked to bring their own GPS units, but a limited number of GPS units will be provided.
All families who attend this will receive a memorabilia prize in honor of Nevada State Parks' 75th anniversary.
The program will be held at the main group area. There is no charge for the program, but there is a $7 per vehicle entry fee for the park. Nevada residents receive a $ 2 per vehicle discount.
