Care Affair to focus on gratitude

In response to the faltering economy, especially for those caring for an ill or aging friend, parent or spouse, St. Peter's Episcopal Caregiver's Group is hosting its "Care Affair" at 4 p.m. Thursday. at the church, 312 N. Division St.

Retired opera singer Sarah Fleming Schickling will kick off the program by singing and asking the audience to bring along a symbol of their favorite thing about the holidays.

All are welcome to participate in the music and food, as well as meet some of the resources the community has to offer caregivers. Susan Haas, director of Nevada Rural Counties RSVP program, and Robin Maxwell of Sierra Place will provide advice for families in need of assisted living or to help a loved one live independently.

Dalton performance to benefit wild horses

A wild horse benefit will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City. The concert will feature Lacy J. Dalton and the Dalton Boys.

Proceeds go to the Let 'Em Run Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the protection and preservation of wild horses and the heritage of the American West.

'Colors of Fall' art exhibit to open

The Nevada Artists Association opens its "Colors of Fall" art exhibit at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center Gallery, 449 W. King St., Nov. 21-Dec. 10. The show will display the latest creations of local and regional NAA members in paintings, photography, fine crafts, jewelry and sculptures.

Featured artist is photographer Wendell Jennessof Minden. 

The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.

Soroptimists seek award applicants

Carson City Soroptimists are accepting applications for their annual Violet Richardson Award, given to girls whose volunteer activities make the community and world a better place. Volunteer activity can include projects that address social problems, education, health, or the environment. Projects that benefit women or girls are especially valued.

Applicants must be ages 14 to 17 as of Dec. 1. Previous winners and family members of Soroptimists are ineligible.

Dayton 4H Ski & Snowboard Club meeting set

Dayton 4H Ski & Snowboard Club will have information and registration meetings at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1-2 at Dayton Intermediate School multipurpose room.

The club is open to all Dayton youth ages 9 by Jan. 1 through high school. Trips to Mount Rose resort will be on Fridays for six weeks beginning Jan 7. Transportation by charter bus, lessons, lift tickets and all rental equipment are included in the cost of $280 (reduced to $255 if member provides their own equipment.)

Students must be eligilbe to attend: C or better in all classes, and no discipline problems at school. Parents are also invited to participate.
