Another winter storm is expected to dump one to three inches of snow by early afternoon today followed by record-low temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
Blowing snow and whiteout conditions are expected along major routes in western Nevada with wind speeds up to 30 mph and gusts to 55 mph. In case of an emergency, drivers should carry tire chains, food, water, blankets and a flashlight in their vehicle.
Skies are expected to clear after the storm and a bout of frigid temperatures will settle in the region.
A low of 4 degrees is expected on Wednesday morning and 6 degrees on Thanksgiving in Carson City, both tying record lows set in 1931 and 1993, respectively. A low of 6 degrees is expected on Friday, beating the current record low of 7 degrees set in 1993, according to the NWS. Highs are expected to be in the 20s.
NWS Meteorologist Dawn Fishler said temperatures, "will warm to the low 30s on Friday, then we'll start seeing a warming trend by next weekend."
Normal high temperatures for this time of year are usually in the 40s and lows in the 20s.
