130 YEARS AGO

Death of Charles Coyle: Mr. Coyle, well-known throughout the state, died at the Ormsby House Sunday with none of those from his palmy days near him. During Senator Jones' first campaign he rendered the Senator valuable service and accompanied the Senator to Washington, where he was appointed to the Capitol police force. He returned here last year suffering from consumption. He was buried without a friend following him to his grave.

100 YEARS AGO

The first baseball game of the season was played yesterday by a team from Reno and the Indian school team. The Carson team has reorganized and will soon meet all comers.

70 YEARS AGO

Many Carsonites enjoyed greatly the play presented at Stewart last evening by members of the high school senior class. The cast included: Marleen Moose, Cecelia Manning, Rosie Attebury, Edith Quinn, Thurman Stone, Billy Steve, Alfred Kitchen, Danny Jackson, Ray Wilson and Audrey Miguel.

50 YEARS AGO

The 51st session of the Nevada Legislature ground to a halt on Saturday, 76 days after starting. The legislature approved expenditures of more than $80 million for the next two years.

20 YEARS AGO

Bally Manufacturing Corp works out a deal to sell it's Nevada holdings to pay off more than $400 million to creditors. Bally to leave Nevada.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
