On Sunday the yacht Transit, owned by John McKenney, and the Minnie Moody, owned by J. Parrell, raced from McKinney's to Idlewild and return for a stake of $100. The race excited a great deal of attention. Both boats reached the wharf at the same time, but the Minnie got out her bow lines first and judged the winner.

100 years ago

Complaints have been filed in the office of the Utility Commission from residents of Reno on telephone service. After a trip to investigate next week, the Commission will travel to Austin to investigate a complaint on water service there.

If the Indian legend holds true, a hard winter is ahead. In many sections of the Pine Nut mountains, boughs of pinion trees are bending under the weight of cones. Those in the know declare this harvest will be the heaviest in many years.

The Carson Babe Ruth All-Stars won a double header Friday. Terry Graham pitched a three hitter to win nine to five over Sparks. In the afternoon game, John Felesina was the winning pitcher with a score of nine to five over Tahoe.

The much talked-about revitalization of downtown Carson City is suddenly becoming visible. Projects currently underway include National Business Factors, the Carson Horseshoe Casino, the Lucky Spur and the Fireside Inn.

A new path along Carson Street between Colorado and Stewart streets and installation of flashing lights are among street improvements planned for Carson.
