Community sports briefly: Pool leagues enter playoffs

In the Carson City 8-Ball Division (Mosconi Division), the four Northern Nevada APA teams that made it to the first week of Playoffs are Big Dogs (first seed), Role Models (second seed), Twisted Stix with Attitudes (third seed), and Good Guys Bad Guys (Wildcard team). Team "Squeeze Play" is the Division Champions and therefore exempt from playoffs.

In the Carson City 8-Ball Division (Comstock Division), the two teams that made it to the final week of playoffs are Dean's Machine and Rack Busters. Team "9-Spoke" is the Division Champions and therefore exempt from playoffs.

In the Dayton/Virginia City 8-Ball Division (Highway 50 Division), the two teams that made it to the final week of playoffs are Ponderosa and OG Squeeze. Team "Union Bruisers" is the Division Champions and therefore exempt from playoffs.


Thunder Canyon Ladies results

The team of Vickie Carl, Tracy Davis, Patti Davin and Lynn Greer (230) won the Thunder Canyon Ladies Clubs' Swinging Safari on Aug. 12-13.

The format was two balls of four on the front nine and a reverse Cha Cha Cha on the back nine.

Winning the Masai Flight was Virginia Bonar, Gloria Kim, Joann Sheerin and Kathy Dunn (247) edged Lynn Greenman, Elaine Walke, Lin Lopes and Sharon Smith (248).

In the Samburu Flight, Karon Sullivan, Robin Ponte, Deb Ford and Annette Ramirez (246) won over Shelly Brewster, Kris Barats, Joyce Powel and Agnes Mannos (247). The team of Betty McGee, Wendy Cauch, Judy Fountain and Nancy Winston was third at 248.

Winning closest to the pin was: Vickie Carl (No. 2), Elaine Easterling (No. 6), Pam Whalen (No. 12) and Ann Marie Sear (No. 17).

Vickie Carl and Lynn Greer tied with Alison Westfall and Gretchen Legarza on the putting challenge.


Closely contested flights for Carson Valley men's club

Mike Davis and Tim Davis tied for first during the Carson Valley Men's Golf Club Flight A stroke play event on Monday. Both shot a net 67. John Murray and Marc Menenez tied for third (71).

In Flight B, Bruce Sanford won with a 67. John Guidicatti and John Miller tied for second (70). Ewald Burmeister was fourth (72).

Gary Carsten (62) won Flight C. John Carey and Paul Finan (67) tied for second. Anthony Moore and Jack Zippwald (69) tied for fourth.

Closest to the pin winners were Tim Davis (No. 13) and Russ Coons (No. 18).


Empire men play well at Genoa Lakes

The team of John Masiello, Jim Green, Bob Del Carlo and Bill Barker won the Flight A Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club better ball tourney played at Genoa Lakes Resort Golf Course on Aug. 10. In second was Richard Ziegler, Peter Youngdahl, Richard Torok and Jack Medeiros. Third place was: George Flamer, Adam Huber, Dahl Rask and Tony Grinceri. The top three teams all shot 55. In fourth was Ken Stone, Mike Rogers, Peter Harrington and Roger Maxwell with a 56.

In Flight B, Henry Teague, Marshal McCurdy, Bill Kaster and Bogey took first. In second was, Thomas Zogorski, Phillip King, Nils Sharpe and Phillip Polaske. In third was Ray McPartlin, Ed Cabello Ron Popp and Don Becker. Finishing fourth was Chuck Bell, Robert Blom, Paul Weller and Frank Romano. All four team shot a 56.

Closest to the pinner winners were: Larry Hammann on No. 3, Ray McPartlin on No. 8, Chuck Bell on No. 14 and Ken Stone on No. 16.
