A Sunridge woman injured Monday morning was identified as 54-year-old Rupa Bradley by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Bradley was hurt when an 18-wheeler couldn't stop in time to prevent hitting the side of her silver Mitsubishi at Mica Drive and Highway 395 around 9:40 a.m.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said Bradley was pulling out from Mica when her vehicle was struck on the driver's side by the southbound semi hauling dog food.

Allen said the driver of the semi was unable to stop in time for the red light.

The woman was taken by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers said side-impact airbags were a factor in reducing Bradley's injuries.

"They did deploy and provide some protection to her, whether it was from the flying glass or the abrupt strike," Allen said.

He encouraged motorists to be focused and make sure the intersection is clear before pulling out at a green light.

"Not everyone stops for red lights. ... The truck was still in the wrong, but at least if she'd spotted him she wouldn't have been hit," he said.
