Governor's Dinner

set for July 8

RENO - The Eldorado Hotel Casino will return as the dinner sponsor at this year's Governor's Dinner on July 8 at the Governor's Mansion.

The evening will return to a sit-down, family style dinner, including the Eldorado's signature steak and mushroom ravioli. The event will start with hosted cocktails at 5:30 p.m., and the dinner and program begin at 7 p.m.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh will serve as the keynote speaker, while former Wolf Pack quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a recent draft pick of the 49ers, and his family will be in attendance at the dinner pending resolution of the NFL's lockout.

Tickets cost $300 per person or $2,200 for a table of eight. In addition, only three VIP tables of eight (including eight VIP reception tickets) remain available for $3,500 each.

To purchase tickets or for more information, call Heather Pennington at (775) 682-6965. Tickets can also be purchased at both Whispering Vine locations and Carson City Toyota.

Aces lose late lead to Sky Sox

COLORADO SPRINGS - Reno's Collin Cowgill recorded four hits Thursday - setting a new club record with a 17-game hitting streak - but the Aces let a seventh-inning lead slip away, dropping a 13-6 decision to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in the series opener at Security Service Field.

With the game knotted at 3-3 through six innings, Wily Mo Pena hit his 18th homer of the season in the seventh -a solo shot that put the Aces ahead, 4-3. But the Sky Sox would answer with three runs in the home half of the frame before exploding for seven more in the eighth to take a lead that would not be threatened.

The Aces and Sky Sox connect again on tonight. RHP Kevin Mulvey (3-4, 6.78 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Colorado Springs will counter with RHP John Maine (1-1, 6.23 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
