Updates coming on parks and recreation projects

The Parks and Recreation Commission is set to hear updates on a number of projects when it meets Tuesday.

Carson City's open-space manager, Juan Guzman, will provide information on the purchase of the Bently property. The status of the Kings Canyon to Ash Canyon Trail project will be presented by open-space resource specialist Ann Bollinger, and park planner Vern Krahn will give an update on the Lakeview Park Trailhead and Carson River Park.

Commissioners also will introduce the newest commissioner, Brett Long, will elect a chairman and vice chairman for 2012, will review the commission bylaws, approve scheduling a parks and facilities tour this spring and determine a possible course of action regarding the House of Representatives' transportation bill, the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act.

The Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization staff will decide Wednesday whether to approve the proposed solicitation, screening and prioritizing of Transportation Enhancement applications submitted for projects within the CAMPO planning area.

The organization meets at 4:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the community center.

The Regional Transportation Commission meeting starts immediately after the adjournment of CAMPO in the Sierra Room. The commission plans to award Commissioner Russell Carpenter a certificate of appreciation for his service on the RTC.

The Carson City Historic Resources Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room.

Commissioners will hear a request from property owner Robyn Laguzza for historical tax-deferment status on property zoned single-family 6000 at 506 W. Spear St.

They also are scheduled to decide whether to approve a two-phase request from Al Salzano for property owner Herman Bauer to demolish a single-family residence, carriage house and shed in order to build two residential duplexes on property zoned residential office at 812 N. Division St.

The commission also is scheduled to discuss an update of the Historic Preservation Fund grant for 2011.
