Toccata to perform ‘Messiah’ Dec. 6

Toccata will present Handel’s Baroque oratorio “Messiah” at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 in the sanctuary of Saint Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

The “Messiah” series marks the completion of Toccata’s eighth season. It features soloists Joy Strotz, Anna Helwing and Jennifer Tibben, sopranos; Stephanie Dixon and Maryanne Ashley, mezzo sopranos; Chris Nelson and Albert Lee, tenors; and Stuart Duke and Ryan Ashley, baritones. The Toccata Chamber Orchestra features Louis Steptoe as concertmaster; David Brock, Tracy Beaver and Nick Haines as continuo; and Mark Lord, William van Meter and Dwayne Hollenbach on baroque trumpets. The performance is conducted by Maestro James Rawie.

Community singers are invited to participate in “Since by Man Came Death,” “Worthy is the Lamb/Amen” and the “Hallelujah Chorus” as an encore. To participate, call 775-782-8207 or send an email to cvartscouncil@yahoo.com.

A reception will precede the concert at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $20 in advance; $25 at the door; and $5 for students and children. Tickets are required for singers.
