The Churchill Arts Council will present a reception for artist, Sharon Maczko, tomorrow afternoon from 5-7 p.m. in the galleries at the Art Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Maczko’s exhibition of more than 20 large format paintings on paper, “Interior Drama: Survey of Selected Watercolors, 1987–2011,” is on view in the Classroom Gallery at the Center.

The works portray a variety of interiors—attics, storerooms and other spaces—along with still lifes of which juxtapose familiar and unfamiliar objects. Maczko’s work has been praised for her realistic style and ability to create striking narrative tableaux. The reception will be a great chance to meet the artist and talk with her about her work.

Coming June 21 is the first of the city’s free in-the-park concerts. The show will feature the Grammy-winning artists, Los Texmaniacs.

The ensemble plays variety of music from norteño Tex-Mex ballads and polkas fused with some blues riffs and stylish R & B sounds. The result is a good-time music that is deeply rooted in tradition but also exploding with a contemporary vitality from jalapeño spiced polkas to new versions of old country and western favorites. For more information on the band and their music you can check out www.texmaniacs.com.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the Centennial Stage in Oats Park in front of the Art Center. It will be a wonderful opportunity to get together with family and friends for an evening of great good time music under the stars. After the concert, the Art Center’s bar and galleries will be open.

In addition to the free concert there will be several other activities happening on June 21 in celebration of the state of Nevada’s sesquicentennial.

These activities include a “Home Town Heroes Fun Run & Walk” at the high school featuring a number of professional athletes who have all graduated from Churchill County High School and the dedication of a special commemorative stamp with Pony Express Riders at the Old Post Office.

Also on tap that day will be the beginning of Relay for Life and free rides in the Wells Fargo stagecoach around Oats Park in the afternoon. For more information on the Los Texmaniacs concert and other events scheduled for that day, call Churchill Arts at 775-423-1440.
