The action was fierce and the drama high last weekend at Top Gun Raceway.

Glenn Kern needed every RPM to take down Greg Taylor in the Super Comp final. Kern, in his 1999 Yancer took down Taylor by one one-thousandth of a second in the Super Comp finals.

Yancer posted a time of 9.310 seconds at 163.24 mph to Taylor’s 9.309 in 165.64 mps. The difference was the start as Kern’s reaction time of .022 seconds was able to hold off Taylor’s .041.

Kern opened the competition with a win over Michael Woodard in the first round followed by a big win over Jim Spernak in the semifinals. Taylor, meanwhile, nipped Kelly Peterson-Farichild and Danny Valdez to reach the finals.

Fallon’s Lonnie Grace took the title in the Super Pro class with a blowout win over Winnemucca’s Laurie Pickett in the final. Grace crossed the line in 8.982 seconds, while Pickett finished in 10.394.

Grace also blew past Jay Roper of Sparks in the first rounds, while Pickett cruised past Kelly Enget.

In the Pro division, Kevin Morris of Sparks took the checkered flag with a near 2-second win over Reno’s David DuBose. Morris, driving a 1967 Chevy Nova, blew past DuBose at the start and cruised to the win in 10.852 seconds, while DuBose crossed in 12.608.

DuBose, though, was able to reach the final after a bit of luck in the first round.

Facing off against Josh Davis, Dubose was crushed by more than 3 seconds, but Davis fouled giving DuBose the win to advance to the quarterfinals.

Morris, meanwhile, nipped Bruce Wallace in the first round and beat Fernley’s Alving Clarke by more than 1.5 seconds.

In the semfinals, DuBose clipped Tom Gorley, while Morris took downJason Arrien.

Thanks to a foul, Tami Phillips scored a win in the finals of the Sportsman class over Walt Stacey. Phillips took down Jim Crowe and Gene Bruflat, while Stacey beat Edward Young and Cortney Morris to advance to the finals.
