Fern Daphne Hayward was born in Shiloh, Arkansas to Alton and Gladys Gentry. A longtime resident of Modesto, CA, she worked as an Avon Representative for many years.


In 1979 she moved with her husband, Elwin to Carson City, NV where she worked for The Ormsby House, K-Mart and Walmart.


Fern supported her children in many activities. She could be found working in the little league snack bar, counting laps at AMA motorcycle races or cheering at the stock car races. She also

enjoyed camping and boating with family. Winning on her favorite slot machine always brought a smile to her face.


Fern is survived by sisters, Clella Crouse of Modesto, CA Linda Osterli of Tucson, AZ and brother Jack Gentry of Dayton, NV; children Brenda Cutchall (Lester) of Carmi, IL, Gary Hayward (Nancy) of Modesto, CA, Michael Hayward (Debbie Maddox) of Carson City, NV and Michelle Potter (Richard) of Fernley, NV. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (of 63 years) Elwin, daughter Kathleen and granddaughter Wendy.
