The National Weather Service has issued its second winter weather advisory of the week, this one for 4 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, for the greater Carson City-Minden-Reno area.
Valleys could see up to an additional 2 inches of snow with up to 5 inches in the foothills, including west of Carson City. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph
“Travel could be difficult due to snow and wind,” said the statement posted Tuesday at 1:41 p.m. at weather.gov. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute. Strong winds could also result in branches falling and localized power outages.
“Snow may mix with or change to rain in valleys, which may significantly limit how much snowfall accumulates.
CARSON CITY FORECAST
Wednesday: Snow likely, mainly after 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 39. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Wednesday night: Snow likely before 10 p.m., then rain, possibly mixed with snow. Snow level rising to 5,100 feet after midnight. Low around 26. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Thursday: A 40 percent chance of snow before 10 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 41. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.
Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 15.
