The National Weather Service has issued wind and winter weather advisories for Carson City, starting Saturday, as a storm that could bring up to 5 inches of snow on the valley floor is forecast.

The wind advisory is Saturday from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected, the NWS statement at weather.gov said. Blowing dust could limit visibility at times. Snow showers will be possible during the day, but the main snow accumulations are expected Saturday night into Sunday.

The winter weather advisory is from 10 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

“Snow expected,” the statement said. “Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, except 5 to 10 inches above 5,000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

“Strong winds may produce near-zero visibility at times, cause tree damage and lead to some power outages.”

The weather service includes a chance of snow in the forecast through Tuesday, then Wednesday is expected to be sunny with a high in the low 40s, before a chance of snow showers returns Thursday.
