The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications for people interested in serving on the Carson City Cultural Commission and the Regional Transportation Commission.

The purpose of the Carson City Cultural Commission is to serve as the official adviser to the board on matters related to the cultural life of the community. There are three open positions, one to fill a partial term that expires January 2025, and two to fill a full term that expires January 2026.

Applicants must be residents of Carson City; have a broad and informed perspective of the arts along with a demonstrated knowledge and responsiveness to the existing arts community and community at large; represent a cross section of the city’s age, multicultural, socio-economic, professional, artistic and volunteer diversity; and have an appreciation for Carson City's rich cultural tradition. Youth representatives (18-25 years old; college students; or young arts advocates/ambassadors), arts professionals (employment in a commercial or nonprofit arts organization), and business professionals (non-arts business owner or staff) are encouraged to apply.

The commission meetings are held at least quarterly, lasting approximately 2-3 hours. Additional time may be spent on special projects and sub-committee work. Applicants should be prepared for a minimum commitment of up to 10 hours a month.

The Board of Supervisors will interview and appoint the qualified person to the commission. Applicants must be a Carson City registered voter to qualify. All members will serve without compensation. All applications submitted will be considered public information. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 16. Interviews are planned for the Board of Supervisors meeting on Jan. 5, 2023.

The board is also seeking applications for the RTC, which is the policy-making body on transportation issues within Carson City whose purpose is to establish priorities and recommend appropriate funding for transportation improvement projects.

The members of the RTC also serve on the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Board (CAMPO) to discuss and take action on federal money spent on transportation and transit projects within the Carson Metropolitan Planning Area.

There is one position open for a term that expires in December 2024.

The RTC meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. after the adjournment of the CAMPO meeting. Applicants should be prepared for a minimum commitment of up to 10 hours a month. Volunteers serve without compensation.
