The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the greater Carson City-Minden-Reno area starting at 4 a.m. Friday and ending at 10 a.m. Saturday.
“Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches, except 4 to 12 inches above 5,000 feet possible,” the statement at weather.gov said. “Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
“The highest snow totals are anticipated to be in the Pine Nut Range, Virginia City Highlands, and eastern slopes of the Carson Range; as well as portions of Douglas County.”
After a break late Saturday and Sunday, snow moves back into the forecast for Monday and remains through the middle of the week.

CARSON CITY FORECAST
Thursday night: Snow, mainly after 4 a.m. Low around 16. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Friday: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 32. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
Friday night: A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northeast wind around 5 mph. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Saturday: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming west after midnight.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 39.
