Mikey Orlick, a Carson High freshman, placed fifth at last week's USASA Snowboard Nationals held at Mammoth.

Orlick followed up his fifth place finish in the slopestyle with a ninth place finish in the superpipe. Competing in the youth men's (14-15-year-olds) division against 80 participants from throughout the country, Orlick's slopestyle performance was nearly perfect with his run consisting of 720 spins, backflips, big airs and flawless work on the rails.

In the halfpipe, Orlick went for the win on his second run, but narrowly missed landing cleanly on his 720 McTwist.

Mikey's brother, Aaron, an Eagle Valley middle school seventh grader, competed in the breaker boys (12-13) division at nationals. He placed 15th in the slalom and 21st in the giant slalom. The breaker boys division had more than 60 competitors.

The Orlicks' sponsors included Out of Bounds Board Shop, Undecided Productions, Elevation Snowboards, Von Zipper Eyewear, Kirkwood Resort, Windells Snowboard Company, Northwave Boots, Drake Bindings and 686 Clothing.
