Booth space still available for upcoming events

Two Northern Nevada events are seeking craft booths. The Lyon County Fly-In and Air Fest, held May 20-21 at the Silver Springs Airport in Silver Springs and the Carson City Rendezvous, held June 9-11 at Mills Park, is still accepting reservations for craft and vendor booths.

Booths cost $100 for crafts and $50 for nonprofit groups for the fly-In, which has about 5,000 attendees. Booths for the rendezvous are $225 and has around 30,000 attendees.

The rendezvous also has openings for American Indian and period traders at a lower cost.

Nevada State Museum celebrates National Coin Week

In celebration of National Coin Week, from Sunday-Saturday, the Nevada State Museum will be operating the Historic Coin Press No. 1 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

More than 75 area businesses will be on hand for the Sixth annual Business Showcase presented by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Authority and the Greater Nevada Credit Union from 3-7:30 p.m. April 27 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Pavilion.

Reno

Boomtown hosting concealed weapons courses

Boomtown Hotel and Casino in Reno will be this year's location for the Nevada Concealed Weapon certification courses.

These courses offer safety tips and certifications, valid in nearly 30 states. This month's classes will be Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30. Upon completion students are prepared to apply for a concealed weapons permit through Washoe County.

Courses include a two-night Boomtown stay Friday and Saturday, two days of four-hour instruction and license application paperwork, for $199 plus tax. Courses alone are just $149.

For an additional $75, a Utah mail-in certification is available, giving non-Utah residents the right to carry concealed weapons in nearly 30 states. You must be at least 21 years old.

Professor to give lecture on women in the face of disaster

Professor Elaine Enarson will be giving a lecture on women's disaster experiences during Hurricane Katrina at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Harry Reid Engineering Lab first-floor conference room at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Fashion fair scheduled for scholarship fund

The Ebony Fashion Fair, a benefit show sponsored by the Reno/Sparks Negro Business and Professional Women's Club for a scholarship fund, will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Circus-Circus Hotel Casino in Reno.

Tickets are $30 general admission, and $15 for students. Ticket prices include a one-year subscription to Ebony or Jet magazine.
