Carson tennis teams roll to victories

The Carson High boys tennis team just wants to keep improving as it prepares for its tougher matches ahead.

Carson coach Pat Houlihan said he's seeing that improvement after an 18-0 win over Damonte Ranch on Thursday at CHS. The Mustangs had just six players, so the teams played a total of 12 matches with two singles and two doubles.

"The kids are actually playing better," Houlihan said. "The kids are feeling more comfortable."

Among those who Houlihan praised was Ben Henningson, who won his singles match 6-0.

"Ben is a backstop," Houlihan said. "He's my backstop guy. He's tough to beat. He gives headaches to people."

Also for Carson (2-0, 1-0 in the Sierra League), Spencer Brinson won 6-0, Jeff Van Epps won 6-0, 6-0, Jordan Rogers won 6-0, Tyler Wing won 6-2 and Daniel Neiman won 6-2 in singles. In doubles, Bryt Lewis and Brad Cobler won 6-0, Nick Smallman and Chris Wear won 6-0, Nathaniel Hamer and James Pelz won 6-0, Alex Wing and Grant Jeppson won 6-0, Tommy Dudley and Jordan Miller won 7-5 and Ian Gentner and Spencer Trapp won 6-2.

CARSON GIRLS 18, DAMONTE RANCH 0

Carson coach Diane Baker Roberts used 24 players in the win for the Senators (2-0, 1-0). "We got a lot of people in, so that's good," Roberts said.

In singles, Christa Casci won 6-0, Lisa Midboe won 6-0, Jenni Hood won 6-1, Elyse Hansen won 6-0. 6-1, Elizabeth Gohr won 6-2, Tiffany Moore won 6-0 Megan Craig won 6-0, Alyssa Corda won 6-4. In doubles, Emily Wang and Kristi Philippi won 6-2, Meagan Carter and Kristen Charles won 6-0, Sarah Asp and Michelle Mauer won 6-0 and Asp teamed with Molly Champion to win 6-1, Joanna Xie and Llelanie Ibarra won 7-6 (7-4), Jessica Adams and Stephanie Adamson won 6-0, Paige Miller and Jenna Greenburg won 6-2, Breanna Collings and Philippi won 6-0 and Hannah Shaw and Charles won 6-0.

Among the players who Roberts praised wer Corda and Asp. "Sarah Asp played real well," Roberts said. "She's kind of a sleeper that surprised."
