Hikes for Sierra Club, senior center set for this weekend


There will be a hike tracing part of the railroad grades in the Carson River Canyon Saturday for the Carson City Senior Citizens Center and Sunday for the Sierra Club.


Hikers do not need to be a member of either organization to participate, but must be experienced and fit. Distance is about 12 miles, primarily along the Carson River, and partially off trail. Elevation gain is under 1,000 feet. No dogs allowed. For information or to sign up for the hikes, call 530-2935 two days prior to the hike.


Redevelopment committee meeting canceled for today


The meeting of the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee scheduled for today has been canceled.


The next scheduled meeting date for the group will be Jan. 10, the second Wednesday of the month.




RTC to offer free fares for food


All RTC public transit services, including RTC RIDE, RTC ACCESS, Sierra Spirit and RTC INTERCITY, will accept nonperishable food donations as payment for fare Thursday and Friday. Donations accepted on vehicles will be distributed to the Northern Nevada Food Bank and the local branch of The Salvation Army. For information, call 348-RIDE (7433) or visit www.rtcwashoe.com.




Wild Sage and Leaping Lassies to hold benefit show


Wild Sage will be holding a Christmas benefit concert for the Do Drop Inn in partnership with the Leaping Lassies Irish Dancers, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the Carson City Library. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Call 841-2580.


Advocates to hold canned food drive


Advocates to End Domestic Violence will be holding its annual canned food drive from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday at Casino Fandango. All donations stay in Carson City and benefit Advocates. Expect Santa Claus and variety of entertainment. Call 883-7654.

Variety show to benefit Alzheimer's


The Dakota Organization will be holding a benefit variety show at 7 p.m. Friday at the CVIC Hall in Minden to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Call 265-7694.




Douglas library's teen advisory board to hold game day


The Dragonslayers, Douglas County Public Library's Teen Advisory Board, will be holding a free Teen Game Day from 4-6 p.m. Friday at the Douglas County Public Library, 1625 Library Lane in Minden. Pizza and soda, as well as a variety of games will be provided. For information, call 782-9841.
