Hike to Machado Postpiles planned

There will be a hike to the Machado Postpiles Saturday for the Carson City Senior Center and Sunday for the Sierra Club. The hike is five miles round trip with an elevation gain of 800 feet and steep rock scrambling. No dogs are allowed on this hike. For information, call 530-2935 at least two days before the hike.

Rummage sale to benefit battle against cancer


A benefit rummage and bake sale will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the parking lot of the Lutheran Church, corner of Saliman and Highway 50 East.


All proceeds will benefit Alicia Smalley, who is battling lymphoma. Donations are welcome and can be dropped off the morning of the sale at the church.

Rancho San Rafael holds 'Twilight Hike' Friday


There will be a Family Twilight Nature hike at 6 p.m. Friday at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Participants should meet at the Wilbur D. May Museum.


Families will take a guided tour of the Evans Creek area then join the Nevada Astronomical Society in stargazing.


Cost is $5 per person and preregistration is preferred, as there is a 30-person maximum. For information or to register, call 785-5961.




Bartley Ranch to hold 'Fall Fun' programs


Families with children aged 4-12 will learn about the changing of the season through a series of fall nature programs at Bartley Ranch Regional Park at 4 p.m. Thursdays from today through Nov. 9.


Today's program will be "Apple Harvest." After that is "Bats Abound"; "Pumpkin Dissection"; "Whoooooose There," a special program about owls that will start at 8 p.m.; "Falling Leaves"; and "Migration," featuring turkeys and geese. Call 828-6612.
