A memorial service for John Duane Hayes, 72, of Silver Springs, will be noon Saturday at Silver Springs Christian Center, 3250 Highway 95, Silver Springs. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Mr. Hayes died Dec. 10, 2006, at St. . Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno. He was born Nov. 24, 1934, in Duluth, Minn., to Ralph and Bernice (Turner) Hayes.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from October 1957 to January 1959. He worked as an operating engineer in Reno, doing excavation from 1968Ð86.

Mr. Hayes moved to Silver Springs in 1972, and started a small horse ranch.

He was a member of the Silver Springs Christian Center, and had been involved with the Food Bank for the last five years. He enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing and kids.

Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by her sister Lois Coffee and brother Ralph "Sonny" Hayes.

He is survived by his life's partner, Beatrice Fenlanson, of Silver Springs; sons Keith Fenlanson of Silver Springs and Roger Steele of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Joni and Tim Luther of Redding, Calif.; daughters Julie Hayes of Colorado, Dawn Fenlanson of Reno, Bernadette Puduzi of Reno, Vicki Fenlanson of Reno, and Belinda Wallace of Silver Springs; brothers and sisters-in-law Douglas and Vaughn Hayes of Yuma, Ariz., the Rev. Milton and Peggy Hayes of Grants Pass, Ore., and Bruce and Maria Hayes of Tacoma, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walton Funeral Home in Reno is in charge of arrangements.
