Carson City


Board of Supervisors looking to fill Parks and Recreation vacancies


The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission.


There are two openings. Terms expire for these vacancies in January 2008. A minimum of up to 10 hours a month commitment is expected.


Closing date for applications is June 13.

Relay for Life supports cancer victims


The Relay for Life, a program of the American Cancer Society, is 5 p.m. to 11 a.m. July 14-15 at Carson High School. The Relay for Life goes throughout the night, with at least one person circling the CHS track every minute, symbolizing that cancer never sleeps. There will be relays throughout Northern Nevada all summer.


The Greater Nevada Credit Union will sell luminary bags in remembrance of those lost to cancer, with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, at all Greater Nevada branches. There will also be a car show and a yard sale to benefit the society. For information, check with a Greater Nevada Credit Union branch.


CASA to hold information meeting


Court Appointed Special Advocates of Carson City will hold an informational meeting from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room of the Juvenile Court Building, 1545 E. Fifth St. Volunteers are appointed by the Juvenile Court to advocate in court and in the system for children who have been removed from the home due to abuse or neglect. Call 882-6776.




BAC Stage Kids holds Improv Kids workshops


BAC Stage Kids and the Brewery Arts Center will hold "Improv Kids," a series of workshops and shows for beginners age 10 and up and those who are more advanced from 12 to 18. Workshops are July 17-21. Beginners' classes are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. daily and advanced classes will be held from 2-5 p.m. daily. Workshop cost is $30 per participant. Show dates are at 7 p.m. July 21-22. All seats are $5. Space for the workshops is limited.

Learn about historic auto travel in Tahoe


The Nevada Historical Society will host a presentation by archaeologist Erich Obermayr entitled "Historic Auto Travel in the Lake Tahoe Basin" from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Nevada Historical Society, 1650 N.
