Big Bucks and Barbecue at the Nugget


Old Town Carson City Merchants is hosting the Big Bucks and Barbecue Tournament from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Nugget parking lot. There will be music and merchant booths.




Learn to teach English as a second language


There will be a free workshop in tutoring English as a second language from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Public Library's auditorium, 900 Roop St. There will be another class June 17.

Children's museum holds another 'Kids Camp'


There will be another "Kids Camp" at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday. There will be several activities. Children must be potty trained and parents must provide a working cell phone. For information or to register your child call 884-2226.




Carson City National Trails Day Cleanup is this weekend


The Carson City National Trails Day Cleanup event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lompa Lane Wetlands. Participants will meet at the intersection of Northridge and Russell drives. For information call 883-8628.




West Coast police to compete for 'Fastest Cop' title


The third annual police and sheriff motor officer competition will take place from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Mills Park.


There will be 50 police officers from all over the West Coast competing to be the fastest police officer.


There will be food, music, and vendors, and admission is free. All proceeds go to benefit the Boys and Girls club. For information call 721-6610.




Computer classes at senior center


A basic "Introduction to Computers "class beginning Monday will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. for four weeks.


A 16-hour advanced course in Microsoft Word will begin Tuesday.


The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-3 p.m. The course deals with editing and enhancing text.


The tuition fee for each course is $40, payable at time of registration. Each class is limited to eight students and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 883-0703 ext. 222.

Book sale at Dayton Library on Saturday


Friends of the Dayton Valley Library will be holding a book sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Dayton Branch Library, 321 Old Dayton Valley Road.

Alzheimer's Association to hold workshop


There will be a workshop for caregivers by the Alzheimer's Association from 12:30-3 p.m. Saturday at the Mack Auditorium at Washoe Medical Center. The workshop is free but a $10 donation is appreciated and lunch will be served. For information call 786-8061.


Child safety day coming


Identification kits will be offered for children at the Child Safety Day event being held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the new AAA office in Northwest Reno, 6295 Sharlands Ave. #5. The public is invited to attend.




Buy plants at Rancho San Rafael


The Wilbur D. May Arboretum plant sale will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the arboretum, located in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. For information call 785-4153.
