Ruth Alyce Foster, 89, a 15-year Minden resident, died Oct. 6, 2006, in Minden.

Mrs. Foster was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Minden, Mich., to Bert Teeple and Ella Jacobs Teeple.

She married Sydney Foster June 1, 1941 in Pigeon, Mich.

Before moving to Minden, Mrs. Foster lived in Michigan, Massachusetts and California.

She graduated from high school in Deckerville, Mich. She attended the University of Michigan, Deckerville, and attended the Detroit Institute of Musical Arts, specializing in dance and drama.

She also went to Michigan State College, where she majored in elementary education.

She was a teacher in one-room rural schools and a homemaker.

She was active in drama and stage productions, the Michigan Bean Shippers Association and the Methodist church in Gardnerville. She was Michigan's first Queen Bean in 1994, and was re-crowned Queen Mother of the Navy Bean for the 50th anniversary of her first beauty contest.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Harry and Don Teeple.

Among her survivors are her husband of Minden; daughter, Lynne; son, Alan Foster; sister, Marion Greene; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister-in-law.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
