Empire Ranch free demo day is today

Empire Ranch Golf Course will celebrate its 10th anniversary today with a free golf equipment demo day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Those attending will be able to try out equipment from leading manufacturing companies such as Nike, Taylormade and Cobra. Company representatives will be available to discuss golfers' specific needs.

Local club fitting expert Trent Galloway will be on hand with KZG clubs and a launch monitor for precise custom fitting. Those attending will be able to hit as many balls as they like and try all the latest equipment for free.

In addition, Empire Ranch will provide free golf instruction from qualified professionals from 2 to 3 p.m. Empire Ranch is also offering $15 gree fees, including cart, until April 19. The $15 green fee includes a $5 coupon for the pro shop or restaurant.

Anderson, Baker fire aces at Eagle Valley

Carson City's Richard Anderson and Richard Baker of Bridgeport, Calif., recently shot holes-in-one at Empire Ranch Golf Course.

Anderson used a 7-iron from the blue tee on the 165-yard 17th hole on the East Course to fire his ace. Harry Snoek, Mike Delczeg and Gene Hoff witnessed the shot. Baker used an 8-iron from the blue tee on the East Course's 17th hole.

Registration for soccer, softball

Late registration for the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department's adult softball and adult soccer leagues will be held through April 19.

Registration for both leagues will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Carson City Community Center front office.

In softball, a 16-game women's season will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 16-game men's seasons will be held on Mondays and Wednesday and Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $540, which must be paid at registration.

Ten-game co-ed and co-ed 40 and over seasons will be held on Fridays, a 10-game men's 40 and over season will be held on Tuesdays and a 10-game men's 60 and over season will be held on a day to still be determined.

Cost is $340. Checks for the registration fees can be made out to Carson City. Teams must also pay a $10 umpire fee at each game.

There is also a USSSA Registration fee of $25. Checks for this fee must be paid to A thru Z Softball.

In soccer, there will be 10-game co-ed 18 and over and 35 and over six-on-six leagues to be held on Saturdays at a cost of $300. There will be a men's 18 and over 11-on-11 league on Sundays for $480, a men's 35 and over 11-on-11 league on Fridays for $420 and women's 11-on-11 league on Saturdays for $300. Checks should be made payable to Carson City.

Teams must also pay officials fees at each game ($60 for 11-on-11, $50 for 35 and over, $40 for six-on-six and women). Players must also purchase a $5 identification card.
