Dunn honored as top student-athlete

Douglas High graduate Kayla Dunn was named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week it was announced on Monday.

The award is voted on by a state media panel. Dunn is the second softball player to win the award.

Dunn, a junior who is a designated player from Carson City, helped Utah State post a 4-1 record last week, as it swept Utah Valley State, 9-4 and 10-1 after five innings, and then went 2-1 against San Jose State, falling in the first game, 15-8, before winning, 8-6 and 11-10, in a doubleheader on Saturday. Dunn batted .667 overall, going 10-for-15 at the plate, recording 11 RBI, nine runs, four walks, three doubles and three home runs.

She tallied a home run in both games against Utah Valley as she was 3-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBI on the day. In the first game against San Jose, she went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while she was 4-for-6 in two games on Saturday, scoring three runs and adding five RBI.

On the season, Dunn is hitting .344 which is tied for 13th in the WAC and is seventh in the conference with 17 walks. She has also tallied 22 hits, 15 RBI, six doubles and three home runs.

The Aggies continue action today when then travel to Pocatello, Idaho to face Idaho State in a doubleheader starting at noon.

Dunn also coaches the Carson Sharks 10 and under and 16 and under softball teams.

CHS baseball games broadcast on the internet

Carson High baseball games can now be heard over the internet at www.newscarsoncity.com. Every CHS baseball game at home and on the road this season will be broadcast on the website.

Chris Graham provides the play-by-play. The next game to be broadcast will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Damonte Ranch at Ron McNutt Field.

Putting contest for Food For Thought

A nine-hole putting contest to benefit Food For Thought will be held on Saturday, April 19 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.

Cost is $10 for a two-person team. Shotgun start is at 10 a.m. Fifteen minutes of practice time will also be available for an additional $1 per person. Food donations will also be accepted.

The event will be a an alternate-putting format. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit Carson City children through Food For Thought, which provides meals to needy students on the weekends.

Registration is due by April 16 at the Empire Ranch pro shop. For more information, call 885-2100.

Signups for adult volleyball and softball

Registration is now on going for the Carson City Recreation Program's adult softball and spring volleyball leagues.

Registration for both leagues will end at 5 p.m. Friday, April 11. Until then, registration will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Carson City Community Center front office.

Sixteen-game seasons will be offered for a women's league on Tuesdays and Thursdays and mens' leagues on Mondays and Wednesday and Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $600.

A 10-game co-ed league will be held every Friday. Cost is $380. Checks for team fees should be made payable to Carson City. A $10 umpire fee is also required at each game.

In volleyball, co-ed II, III and IV leagues will be held on Mondays and/or Wednesdays, women's II, III and IV leagues will be held on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays and a men's league will be held on Sundays. Cost is $200 per team.
