Carson City


Learn to scrapbook at senior center


A Scrapbook Class will beat 10 a.m. Thursday in the Jobs Peak Room at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

'Strings in Summer' concert at the Mall


"Strings in the Summer," the Carson City Symphony's summer program for string players of all ages, will present a free concert at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Mall, 1313 S. Carson St.


Performers, directed by Sue Kitts, are from Carson City, Dayton, Incline Village and Douglas County and range from elementary school students through adults. They will play a selection of their favorite classical, folk and fiddle tunes.


"Strings in the Summer" is an extension of Carson City Symphony's "Strings in the Schools" program.




Douglas County


Smokey Bear to visit Minden Library


Smokey Bear will make a special appearance at 6:30 tonight at the Douglas County Public Library 1625 Library Lane.


Miss Carol from the Douglas County Public Library will tell the story of Smokey and how he came to be the animal symbol for fire safety. Stacy Saucedo from the U.S. Forest Service will talk about how to use fire and matches safely.


To celebrate Smokey's birthday, participants will make homemade ice-cream-in-a-can. Children should bring their own toppings such as chocolate sauce, cherries and whipped cream. Bring small clear coffee can lids (from 13-oz. coffee cans). Children must register by Monday morning to attend this program.

Contractors board holds free license application workshop


The Nevada State Contractors Board "Business Assistance Program," established to provide guidance with the license application process, is accepting reservations for a free workshop from 9:30-11: 30 a.m. on Thursday at the Reno board office, 9670 Gateway Drive, Suite 100, Reno.


Applicants for a contractor's license receive information to complete the application process quickly and accurately.


The NSCB encourages applicants to take advantage of and attend the Business Assistance Program. Many who have attended the program said it was very helpful in their application process.

Wooden boat show begins Thursday


The 35th annual Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance wooden boat show will take place Thursday through Saturday at the Sierra Boat Co. in Carnelian Bay, Calif. The featured class of boats for the 2007 event is "Boats of the Thirties." Cost for the show is $20 for either Friday or Saturday ($25 for both days) and $100 for the Thursday VIP preview. New Monsoon to perform in Truckee
