Carson City

Young professionals invited to network

The Young Business Professionals, a new group in Carson City, will meet from 5:30-7:30 tonight at D'Vine Wine at 200 N. Stewart St. The purpose of the meeting is to meet and network with other young professionals.

The group will also meet at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Galaxy Theaters, 4000 S. Curry St.

Guest speaker at the meeting is Joe Williams, general manager of Galaxy Theaters.

After the meeting a tour of Galaxy Theaters will be offered.

Live music offered at senior center

"Mixed Nuts" will perform live music from 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

The music is part of a free afternoon dance offered by the center. It is open to the public.

The group is under the direction of Mark Lund, who also performs with the band. Call 883-0703.

Learn scrapbooking at senior center

Learn how to preserve memories and photos at the Scrapbooking Class 10 a.m. Thursday at in the Job's Peak Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 901 Beverly Dr. Bring a few photos as a sampler will be made. Fee $5. For information call 885-8230.

Don't forget about DAV fundraiser

Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 7 will be out Friday through Sunday giving out Forget-Me-Nots in exchange for donations.

Local representatives will be available in front of Albertson's, Smith's, Scolari's and Wal-Mart stores giving out the little blue flowers.

The purpose of the fundraiser is to support the programs offered to veterans. The group transported about 80 members to and from the hospital from Carson, Dayton and Gardnerville during July alone and intends to spend a good portion of money they raise to help pay for a new van.

Blues bands take Third Street stage

Three local blues bands will be featured at the Third Street Dance Party, 224 South Carson St. from 7-11 p.m. Friday. Blue Finger Production is in charge of the bands.

Mom and Pop's Diner, Carson City Redevelopment, and Brewery Art Center sponsor the Friday event. There will be a bar and food booth on the street.

Workshop explains government contracting

The Nevada Procurement Outreach Program's workshop is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. Friday in the Nevada Commission on Economic Development's Carson City office, 108 E. Proctor St. This free workshop will focus on taking the mystery out of government contracting at the state and federal levels.

Salvador Santana performs Friday

Keyboardist Salvador Santana and his band are coming to the Saw Tooth Ridge café (formerly Humpty's) at 877 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City at 9:30 p.m. Friday.

This is an all-ages show. Salvatore is the son of legendary guitarist Carlos Santana.

Toby Keith Band coming to Harveys

Toby Keith's "Big Dog Daddy Tour" plays Saturday at Harveys Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena. Opening is Flynnville Train, whose debut album is set for release in September. Tickets are $67.50-$125.
