Fernley and Yerington High Schools both turned in strong efforts at the NIAA Northern 3A Wrestling Championships on Saturday.
Fernley finished third with 178 points while Yerington was fourth with 173.5. Spring Creek won the title with 210 points while Lowry was second with 208.5. The top five finishers qualified for next week's NIAA 3A State Championships. Lyon County wrestlers who qualified for state were:
103 pounds - Alesha Stoffel, Fernley, fourth; Meagan Valentine, Yerington, fifth; 112 - Ryan Lopez, Fernley, second; Rachael Skroch, Yerington, fourth. 125 - Kevin Martinez, Fernley, first. 130 - Travis Wade, Dayton, first; Derek Guiterrez, Yerington, second. 135 - Matthew Bevington, Yerington, first; Tucker Taylor, Fernley, second. 140 - A.J. Estrada, Fernley, fourth.
145 - Daniel Kenneston, Dayton, third; Dustin Maguin, Fernley, fourth. 152 - Ryan Lannan, Fernley, fourth; David Dixon, Yerington, fifth. 160 - Doug Kornegay, Fernley, first. 171 - Sean Watson, Yerington, second; Josh Cutts, Fernley, third. 189 - Daniel Bauer, Yerington, first; Josh Coughlin, Dayton, second; Mike Tachera, Fernley, fifth. 215 - Stephen Skroch, Yerington, first; Tommy Cota, Yerington, fourth.
