Branch to appear at boosters picnic

Former Oakland Raiders receiving great Cliff Branch will be the featured guest at the Carson City Raiders Booster Club's annual Picnic and Membership Drive.

The event will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at Washoe Lake State Park. The event is free for Booster members. The cost is $5 for nonmembers. There will be an additional $5 parking fee per vehicle.

Branch will sign autographs, pose for photos and have memorabilia for purchase at the event.

Those attending are asked to bring a side dish to share with everyone else. The event is a "bring your own" beverage picnic. A live auction and drawing will also be held.

Funds raised by the club are used to adopt homebound seniors in conjunction with the Carson City Senior Citizens Center. For information, call 883-7112 or 232-9700.

Prestella golf event to be held August 4

The second annual Kenny Prestella Memorial golf tournament will be held on August 4 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.

The shotgun start for the four-man scramble, best ball event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and players need to be at the course at 8. Cost is $100 per person.

Michaels Cycle Works has donated a See Doo with trailer for a hole-in-one. There will also be two longest drive holes, two closest to the pin holes and a drawing.

The top three teams will win cash prizes. All proceeds from the event will go to the Epilepsy Foundation on behalf of Kenny Prestella.

A barbecue pig roast will follow the tournament. For more information, call Larry Wood, 883-2371.

Nichols fires hole-in-one at Silver Oak

Russell Nichols recently fired a hole-in-one at Silver Oak Golf Club, using a sand wedge from the blee tee on the 125-yard second hole. Vinson Christenson and Virgil Christenson witnessed the ace.
