Morning road and weather report

A strong low-pressure system will continue to affect the region today with scattered to numerous snow showers through this afternoon.

Little to no accumulation is expected except in heavier bands and in the higher elevations.

Later this afternoon the system will begin to exit the region giving way to clearing skies. Temperatures will drop to near or below

freezing across most of the area this evening.

Another system will affect the region Tuesday evening through Wednesday.

Weather spotters are encouraged to report significant weather conditions according to standard operating procedures to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Today: Scattered snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Tonight: Scattered snow showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. North wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 53. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 66. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. Calm wind becoming southwest between 5 and 10 mph.

All routes are open with no controls with the following exceptions:

SR88:

- Snowtires or chains required for 11 miles between 5.8 miles east of Peddlar Hill California and Kirkwood California.

- Chains mandatory for 7.5 miles between Kirkwood California and 6.7 miles west of Junction State Route 89 at Picketts Junction.
