Carson Tahoe offers affordable lab screenings on the second Tuesday of each month. Doctor's orders are not required. Included: Comprehensive Metabolic and Lipid Panel, PSA, CBC, TSH, and Hemoglobin A1c. Appointments are required.

Intro to computer classes for seniors


Enrollment is under way at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive for two introduction to Computer Classes. The first class will be 9 -11 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 7-July 30.


The second class will be 1-3 p.m., July 8-July 31.

WNC offers Arabic and Mandarin


Western Nevada College is offering three-credit classes in Arabic and Mandarin Chinese this fall semester at its Carson City campus. Classes begin Aug. 25.


Conversational Chinese (CHI 101B, C01, call number 37439) will be 7-9:45 p.m., Wednesdays.


Conversational Arabic (ARA 101B C01, call number 31782) will be offered 5-7:45 p.m., Mondays.


The cost for each three-credit course is $192 for Nevada residents. New and returning students can sign up and pay for classes online at www.wnc.edu.

Carson Chamber promotes shopping in Carson City


The Carson City Chamber is encouraging locals to stay home to shop, dine and play during the week of July 13 and beyond.


Over 50 businesses are participating in the program offering anything from free drinks with meals to 2-for-1 items and discounts on merchandise.


The chamber has produced a reusable shopping bag that will be filled with all the discount coupons. The coupon-filled shopping bag will be available for $3 beginning July 7. The reusable bags are available at the chamber office, behind the Nevada State Railroad Museum at 1900 S. Carson St., second floor.

Library closed for the Fourth


The Douglas County Public Library in Minden and Zephyr Cove will be closed on Friday for Independence Day. The Minden library will re-open at 10 a.m., Saturday; the Zephyr Cove Library will re-open at 9 a.m., Saturday.

Art show, sale for Diabetes Association


The Nevada Diabetes Association will be the benefactor of a month-long art show and sale featuring the paintings of American Artist Donna Long and sculptures by Jerry Smith.


The show and sale will be at the Bartley Ranch House, Gus Bartley Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road, Reno through July 31.


Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of the art will benefit the NDA's Rockin' Reno Rodeo Camp for Teens with diabetes.
