Vernon K. Walker

Vernon K. Walker passed away Feb. 25, 2008 in Reno. He was 84 years old. Vernon was born on Feb. 27, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pa.

He was a true patriot. His life revolved around the Marine Corps. He first enlisted in the Marines on Dec. 27, 1941. He served in WWII, landing in Guadalcanal, New Britian and Peleliu in the Pacific. Then he served in the Korean Conflict where he landed in Inchon, South Korea. He later served in Vietnam. During his military career he was awarded the Purple Heart due to a wound received in Korea. Vern finally retired from the Marines in 1968, stating he just got tired of fighting wars.

He is survived by his wife Hazel of Carson City also a sister-in-law, Audrey Thorup and a niece, Mary Ann Wright both of Pine Grove, Calif.

A graveside service with military honors will be Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno.
