Oodles of Noodles cooks sought

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is calling for contestants to join the Seventh annual Oodles of Noodles Cook-off on May 10.

The deadline for entry is April 30; the entry fee is $50. After April 30 the entry fee is $65. This event is a one-day event that combines good food and vendor and business booths.

The event will be held in Old Town Dayton on Logan Way and Pike Street. Set up on Friday afternoon is recommended. Booths will open at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. For information and application visit www.daytonnvchamber.org or call 246-7909.

Fallon

Canadian singer appears in Fallon

The Churchill Arts Council will present a performance by the Canadian Grammy-nominated Jazz vocalist Sophie Milman at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon at 8 p.m. April 12. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and there will be a no-host bar. Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for nonmembers and $10 for children/students at (775) 423-1440.

Sophie Milman is a 25-year old, Russian-born, Canadian jazz sensation, whose debut release was included in Billboard's Top 15.

Fernley

Farmers Market seeks entrants

The Fernley Farmers Market is gearing up for the 2008 season and is looking for crafters, artisans, bakers, farmers and nonprofit organizations to join the market. Tea party, fashion show planned

Tickets are now on sale for the fourth Annual Mom and Me Tea Party, Luncheon & Fashion Show at 11:30 a.m. April 5 at the Fernley Community Center.

This year's theme is a Japanese tea ceremony.

Tickets can be purchased at Casa del Sol and at Mirage Gifts. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Checks can be made payable to the Fernley Improvement Club.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring one nonperishable food item for Fernley's Food Bank. People are also encouraged to bring their own favorite tea cup and saucer and the best one wins a prize.

Rural housing rep visiting

A representative from the Nevada Rural Housing Authority will be at the Fernley Senior Center at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to take applications for the program. The NRHA provides rental assistance to low-income families, elderly, and disabled persons. Call 887-1795.

Talent night at the Gold Hill Hotel

Tax assistance for seniors available

The American Association of Retired Persons will be offering tax services at the Silver Springs Senior Center each Tuesday and Wednesday.

All low- and middle-income seniors and families are welcome to attend.

Lake Lahontan site of Easter Egg Hunt

The Annual Lake Lahontan Easter Egg Hunt will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Day Use area of the park.

The egg hunt is organized for children ages one-day-old to fifth grade.

A raffle will be held following the egg hunt. For more details, call 577-9434.

Stagecoach

Author to hold workshop for teens

A three-day creative writing workshop with author Terri Farley will take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday at the Boettcher family's new youth recreation room.

It will include lunch and snacks.

Farley's work has been nominated for an American Library Association best book for young adults, and she has been very active in the Wild Horse Preservation League of Dayton and has degrees in both English and journalism.

The workshop is for middle- and high-school teens from Lyon County. It is limited to 30 teens. Call 577-5009, ext. 24 to register.

Chamber joins Meals on Wheels campaign

The Silver Springs Chamber of Commerce has joined the March for Meals campaign to raise money for the Silver Springs Senior Center's Meals on Wheels Program.

From March 29-30, a flea market will be held each day at the Silver Springs Senior Center from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Vendors are welcome to participate.

Virginia City

Easter Parade on Saturday

The Mad Hatter's Easter Parade will kick off Easter fun in Virginia City Saturday.

The parade, which offers cash prizes for best, biggest and most bodacious bonnets, will begin at the Virginia City Jerky Company, 204 South C St., Virginia City at noon, with registration and lineup at 11 a.m. Download a parade form at www.VisitVirginiaCitynv.com, or call 847-4768.

Comstock to host Easter egg hunt

The Great Virginia City Easter Egg Hunt for children under 10 will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Miner's Park at E and Mill streets, Virginia City.

More than 1,000 real and plastic eggs will be hidden in the park area. Some of plastic eggs will contain the name of a store; those collecting those eggs can go to the store listed in their egg and win a free prize.
