E. Carson below Hangman's Bridge: Flow is at 259 cfs. The river is clear and wadable. Some nice reports are coming out from the confluence past the airport access. We've had some guides giving reports of some very large fish on streamers near the airport access. In addition to those reports, we've also had several reports of rattlesnakes coming out to sun, so, make sure you keep an eye out for them. Dries are Para Madame X (chartreuse or yellow), Yellow Sally's, para adams, EHC, all of these can take a dropper in a size 16 - 20, which is recommended. Use a PT, Prince or Pete's Prince, Small BSB, or Bubbleback or epoxy back yellow stone. Stocked heavily by Alpine County and the Calilfornia Division of Fish and Game these past few weeks.
E. Carson / Gardnerville: Flow is at 265 cfs. Stocked recently by the Nevada Department of Wildlife at the bridge. Yellow Crystal buggers, PT's hare's ears. Fishing quiet nicely for families. The back water is seeing some rises, adams patterns if you want to work at it a bit, nymphing will produce a bit more action: golden stone with a PT or copper john drop on a No. 1 rig. Again, watch for snakes.
W. Carson / Canyon: Flow is at 45 cfs. Being stocked by Alpine and CDF&G, you'll be able to walk on the fishes backs. Olive and black buggers did well, hare's ear and PT's with a san juan drop did well also. For the spin fishermen: Small Kastermasters in silver and we heard that the Bouyant (orange) still producing.
E. Walker / Rosaschi: Flow is at 259 cfs. Our clients have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of fish that are on this river. Fish have been able to move away from the holes and will be at the tail outs if they are actively feeding. We found fish everywhere. Finding bugs other than micro caddis and some micro leeches have been sporadic. Heavy Baetis hatch still coming off. The mosquitoes that were prevalent last week should be burning off by end of this week. Yellow Sally's (little yellow stones) were coming off. Hare's ears were the ticket on most every drift. Though we still have been getting some nice hatches of May Fly (gray) and BWO's in about a 28 or 20. Nymph rigs included: PT's (14), BSB's (12), Pearl disco (18 & 20) FBBH Hare's Ear (14). Start watching water temps late in the afternoon, when it hits 70, please be responsible and stop fishing. San Juan worms (red) and red zebra midges did well in the lower section.
E. Walker Below Dam: Flow is at 254 cfs. Cannot say this enough: Still busy with fishermen, though there have been some lucky enough to walk up to Screamin' Hole. One of our Nevada Guides, who lives on the private water section has been fishing consistently with some nice fish to hand. We may start to lose some of the larger fish, now that one fish over 18 inches is in affect. It fished excellent this past week. Dry action on Para Madame X, drowned caddis. Could not keep them off of a BSB in size 14 or 12. Large streamers were promptly wacked at, I've not heard anything that they are not taking. A nice mix of yearlings and larger fish.
W. Walker / Canyon: Flow is at 483 cfs. Still a bit fast, but clear. Stocked well by CDF&G and the town of Walker. July 1st started the "How Big is Big" derby. Fish will be pushed to the sides mainly, a few might try and stay in the pillows. You can also drift a rig with a lot of weight (two BB size) close to the rip-rap Prince and a PT.
Little Walker River: Flow is at 61 cfs. Streamer patterns doing nicely, yellow crystal bugger, and muddlers. Dries have been Para Madame X in yellow and royal wulffs.
Truckee River: Flow is at 505 cfs. Crossing is still iffy. Water is still a bit cool. We've had some hatches of some green drakes and someone even said some sulfars were coming off. Zebra midges or smaller PT's. Streamer patterns have been Zuddlers and even some clousers were doing well. with some weight to get them down to dredge those holes.
Blue Lakes: Upper Blue has not been stocked yet, because of the lawsuit, but it's fishing quite nicely on black, brown, or olive buggers. The lower lake is doing nicely also with the same patterns. Dry patterns: EHC, adams, mosquito, ant, emerging calibaetis.
Red Lake: The lake is still a bit slower than what we expect this time of year. Fly fishermen: PT's, zebra midges, leech patterns. Spin fishermen: gold and red panther martins, super dupers.
Caples Lake: How nice to see it full. Buggers in black and dark olive on a full sink or intermediate did produce fish. On a strike indicator: use a PT and a zebra drop. The stocking recovery plan is still in affect, we should be getting some of the nicer fish stocked in the next month or so.
Spooner: Leech patterns, damsel, water boatmen and any peacock pattern on an intermediate sink. Dries are mosquitoes, caddis and Para Adams. Fishing from a float tube is your best bet, to avoid the weed line.
