Fishing report for June 4

E. Carson below Hangman's Bridge: Flow is 1,090 cfs. Cold but clearing and lowering. Cold water coming down it looks like the run-off has peaked, now we just wait for it all to subside, some mornings we have green water and with the recent thunderstorms, it muddies up again. Nymph the holes with a PT, caddis pupa, copper johns in 16 - 18. Concentrate on the cut banks and where the trout can hold, you can get them on dark steamers in the sunnier areas, like the confluence when the sun is on it earlier in the day. Some midge hatches are coming off with the sun, BWO and a small amount of Calibeatis. Stone flies are sporadic. Wading is very difficult. Will be difficult until under 300 cfs. It's catch and release only below bridge with no bait or single barbless hooks.

E. Carson at Gardnerville: Flow is at 1,020 cfs. Water is clearing and turning green. Wading is not recommended. A lot of the fish have been pushed into the canals due to run-off. Some fish lingered above the bridge. The back water is seeing some rises, adams patterns if you want to work at it a bit, nymphing will produce a bit more action: golden stone with a PT or copper john drop on a No. 1 rig.

W. Carson at Canyon: Flow is 172 cfs. Clearing and still a bit high. Stocked heavily by Alpine County. Princes, zug bugs, PT's and copper johns. Crystal buggers if you want to strip. I like a combo of a hare's ear and PT, when fish are first stocked. This Friday the ladies of Casting for Recovery will be fishing, please stop by and say hello.

E. Walker at Rosaschi: Flow is 198 cfs. Flow is being turned down as for the last few days. Best conditions are 70 - 150, after 200 it's not recommend to wade. Pick your side and stay on it. Fish have been able to move away from the holes and will be at the tail outs if they are actively feeding. We found fish everywhere. Finding bugs other than micro caddis and some micro leeches have been sporadic, last week with clients we saw a few adult stones. Though we still have been getting some nice hatches of May Fly (gray) and BWO's in about a 28 or 20. Nymph rigs included: PT's (14), BSB's (12), Pearl disco (18 & 20) FBBH Hare's Ear (14).

E. Walker below dam: Flow is 195 cfs. Still very busy with fishermen. We may start to lose some of the larger fish, now that one fish over 18 inches is in affect. It fished excellent this past week. Dry action on Para Madame X, drowned caddis. Could not keep them off of a BSB in size 14 or 12. Large streamers were promptly whacked at, I've not heard anything that they are not taking. A nice mix of yearlings and larger fish.

W. Walker at Canyon: Flow is at 987 cfs. Stocked well by CDFG and the town of Walker. Fish will be pushed to the sides mainly, a few might try and stay in the pillows. I'd recommend Peacock patterns, yellow crystal buggers and the lighter olive buggers. You can also drift a rig with a lot of weight (2 BB size) close to the rip-rap Prince and a PT. Flows have peaked and now we wait for the water to lessen.

Little Walker River: Flow is at 111 cfs. Running a bit high still with run off. Some hold overs are still around. CDFG stocking may or may not occur with the recent budget concerns on this creek.

Truckee River: Flow is at 717 cfs. Wading is a no-no. Water is very cold right now, go deep or go home. If the sun gets into an area that produces a midge hatch, try comparadun adams or PT's.
