E. Carson below Hangman's Bridge " Too high to wade. You can barely wade it at 700 cfs. There is very cold water coming down, so it looks like the run-off has peaked.
Concentrate on the cut banks and where the trout can hold. Cast dark steamers in the sunnier areas, like the confluence when the sun is on it earlier in the day. Some midge hatches are coming off with the sun, BWO and a small amount of Calibeatis.
E. Carson/Gardnerville "The water is very high, and wading is not recommended.
If conditions continue, there should be ebbing in about two weeks.
The NDOW lightly stocked the area a few weeks ago. A lot of the fish have been pushed into the canals due to run-off. Some fish lingered above the bridge. The back water is seeing some rises. Nymphing will produce a bit more action; golden stone with a PT or copper john drop on a No. 1 rig.
East Walker/Rosachi " It's running high. The best conditions are between 70 and 150. After 200 it's not recommended to wade, so pick your side and stay on it.
Fish have been able to move away from the holes and will be at the tailouts if they are actively feeding. Finding bugs other than micro caddis and some micro leeches have been sporadic.
Though we still have been getting some nice hatches of May Fly (gray) and BWO's in about a 28 or 20.
We've been seeing several dead fish. We attribute it to poor catch and release practices with the increase of fishermen using the water. If you are in doubt of how to do it, please call and ask, and we'll be happy to explain on what not to do.
San Juan worms (red) and red zebra midges did well in the lower section.
W. Walker/Canyon " Stocked well by CDF&G and the town of Walker. Fish will be pushed to the sides mainly, though a few might try and stay in the pillows.
Since it's off color, I'd recommend Peacock patterns, yellow crystal buggers and the lighter olive buggers. Flows have peaked and now we wait for the water to lessen. It should be good in about two weeks, though high, but should be clearing.
Caples Lake " Buggers in black and dark olive on a full sink or intermediate did produce fish. The stocking recovery plan is still in effect. We should be getting some of the nicer fish stocked in the next month or so.
Mason Valley Wildlife area " Zebra midges and thin bodied leeches so far. Shore fishermen did well when it first opened and the back water did well on small olive or black midges for the float tubers.
Topaz " Feed is still earthworms on both the North shore and on the south side. We had a few customers get them on zebra and PT's on the south side.
