Winds calming, but wet weather to continue

While the National Weather Service said it was canceling its high wind warning this morning, Carson City should still expect gusts of up to 60 mph and more rain and snow showers throughout the day.

Even if it's all snow, we're not going to see anyting stick to the roads," said Jim Wallmann, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Reno. "It'll just keep kind of wet. It will remain quite cool, too. It will hover around 40 degrees for the rest of the day."

Wallmann said the storm system passing through western Nevada should clear up by tonight, but another storm is expected in the region on Sunday night.

Three day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: Rain showers likely. Snow level 5,500 feet. Cloudy, with a high near 50. Windy, with a west wind between 30 and 35 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Tonight: Snow. Low around 27. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 42. West wind around 10 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 22. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. North wind around 5 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 25.
