COMMUNITY BRIEFLY: Junior Midgets advance to title game

The Carson Jr. Midgets avenged an earlier loss to the Reno Wolfpack with a 30-0 win over the weekend.

Carson's defense had several interceptions during the game, Josiah Pongasi had two, while Jonathan Ramirez and Diego Francis had one each.

Brady O'Keefe ran for a 40-yard touchdown with Pongasi making the extra point in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Ramirez caught a 35-yard TD pass and Pongasi kicked the PAT for a 16-0 lead at the half.

In the fourth quarter, Colby Brown had a 12-yard touchdown run with Pongasi again kicking the PAT. Later in the fourth quarter Elijah Fajayan had an 8-yard TD run to make it 30-0.

Carson will play in the Sagebrush Empire championship game Nov. 13th at 4 p.m. at Golden Eagle Park in Sparks against South Lake Tahoe. The winner of the game will go on to regionals in Santa Clara, Calif. the following weekend.

Pee-Wee Senators lose

The Pee Wee Senators lost a hard-fought semifinal game Saturday against the Sparks Steelers 12-6.

Sparks scored in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead after taking possession at midfield. Carson answered in the third quarter with a 55-yard touchdown run by Connor Pradere but failed to make the extra point.

Sparks scored again in the fourth quarter on a broken play to put them up 12-6. Carson had a hard time moving the ball on offense but played very well on defense.

Carson plays South Lake Tahoe in the consolation game Saturday in Sparks at noon.

Pop Warner scholars honored by league

In recognition of their commitment and dedication to academic excellence while participating in extra-curricular activities, Carson City Pop Warner recently held a scholastic banquet where players and cheerleaders were honored.

The participants received savings bonds totaling $100, $75 and $50, respectively.

These students also will be recognized at a Regional Pop Warner level and any participants with a 96 percent and above will be sent to National Pop Warner for recognition.

Competitive cheerleading team starting in Carson

A new competitive cheerleading club is accepting sign-ups through Nov. 13.

Capital Elite All-Stars is located at 3031 Deer Run Rd. Competitive cheerleading includes tumbling, dance, stunting and jumps to create a stage performance. Ages 6-18 are accepted.

Local soccer players

attend Chastain clinic

Capital Soccer Club members ages 10 to 13 years old participated at the Brandi Chastain Testimonial Soccer Clinic and Testimonial Game in October at Buck Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University.

After the clinic CSC entered the stadium in the parade and enjoyed watching the all-star soccer match. Also joining Chastain in the testimonial soccer match were Eric Lagopoulos, Brent Jones, Kelly Lindsey, Ro Hernandez, Tiffany Milbrett, Cindy Parlow, Giovanni Savarese, Judy Reyes, David Zayas, Danielle Slaton, Julie Inkster, Yang Zhou, Megan McCray, Jordan Angeli, Fernando Ciavijo, Chris Dangerfield, Bobby Sarnevesht, Kristi Leskinen, Joe Cannon, Val Henderson and Jerry Smith.

The event celebrated the career of Chastain and kicked off the ReachUp Foundation. Capital Soccer Club members had the opportunity of a lifetime as they were coached during the clinic by Brandi's friends including Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Tisha Venturini, Joy Fawcett, Marcelo Balboa, Tony DiCicco, Sissi, Eric Wynalda, Leslie Osborne, Aly Wagner, Nomar Garciaparra and Chris Armas.

CSC schedules spring

player evaluations

The Capital Soccer Club in Carson City has scheduled its player evaluations for Nov. 13 at Edmonds Field.

The girls' evaluation period is from 9 a.m. to noon while the boys will go from noon to 3 p.m. The local soccer club has competitive and recreational squads.

Mosconi Division

Jerry's Kids has a four-point lead over AltF4, Rack Fink and Role Models for the Mosconi Division lead in the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

Jerry's has 32 while the other three teams are at 28.

David Giovacchini of Dean's Machine leads the 6-7 tier with 30 points, while Edwin Scrivner is second at 24. Mike Snoddy of Cues Yer Daddy leads the 4-5 tier with 24 points and Phil Jones of Jerry's Kids is second at 20. Josiah Toledo of Young and Reckless leads the 2-3 tier with 20 points and Janice Cameron of The Spoke is second with 17.

The Comstock Division lead is held by 9-Spoke with 707 points, while Dean's Machine is second at 699.

Alex Gutierrez of Dean's Machine leads the 6-9 tier with 22 points, while Daniel McRae of the Over the Hill Gang is second with 20. Robert Wilson of Poke 'N' Hope leads the 4-5 tier with 43 points and Lisa McCuiston of Tied and Soldiered is second at 36. James Panos of Rack Busters leads the 1-3 tier with 23, while Lawrence Gloisten of 9-Spoke and Rachel Hurt of the Rattlers are tied for second at 22.

Baseball team selling

Indian tacos

The Sierra Boys of Summer U-10 travel baseball team is selling Indian tacos on Nov. 12 to help raise funds for the coming season.

The tacos are made by Debbie Painter and cost $5 apiece. You can have them delivered by calling 230-5281 or you can pick them up at 2900 S. Curry St. from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All the money raised will be used to enter tournaments during the season.
