Pumpkin patch and fishing day at Fuji

The Carson City/Storey counties Pumpkin Patch sprouts at 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Fuji Park and Carson City Fairgrounds, hosted by 4-H clubs from the two counties.

Besides pumpkins, the children-friendly event features pony rides, a petting zoo and carnival games.

Area youth are encouraged to come in costume for the "March of the Goblins" at noon. Pumpkins will be available in the park. Folks who want to secure their pumpkin ahead of time can contact a council member for a $5 ticket.

This year, the pumpkin patch coincides with the dedication of the new Carson Fishing Pond.

Kids Fishing Day and dedication of the Carson Fishing Pond is hosted by the Carson Host Lions from 7 a.m.-noon in Fuji Park. For more information about the Kids Fishing Day, contact Kathy McClintock at 775-885-8110.

Breast cancer awareness event planned

As a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, the Carson Valley Medical Center will host an educational and informational event. Applications will be accepted for a limited number of free mammograms to uninsured women.

Artist talk and reception on Thursday

The Nevada Arts Council will host a free artist talk by Bryan Christiansen, creator of the "Kiddo" exhibit, followed by a gallery reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the OXS gallery in the Nevada Arts Council office, 716 N. Carson St. (intersection of Washington Street), Suite A, Carson City.

Hunting the surrounding area for abandoned furniture, Christiansen reconstructs his finds into animals or deconstructs to create various "trophies" including "antler mounts" and stretched furniture "pelts."

Registrations open for Turkey Day Dash

Registrations are under way for the Turkey Day 5K and Kids 400M Dash scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25 at Lampe Park, Gardnerville. The family event includes a morning of fitness, prizes, pie-eating contest, sack races and more.

Crafters and vendors sought for Dayton school bazaar

The Dayton Elementary School Boosters are looking for crafters and vendors for the school's Holiday Bazaar scheduled 9 a.m.-

3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.

Bunco party and soup supper tonight

The Carson City Emblem Club #507 will host a Bunco party and soup supper today at the Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St. The public is welcome.

The soup supper starts at 6 p.m. and costs $5. Bunco starts at 7 p.m. and also costs $5.

Prizes will be awarded for the most bunco, highest score and lowest score.

WNC driver ed class at Silver Stage

SILVER SPRINGS - A required driver education course for teens ages 15 and older will be offered at Silver Stage High School Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 8-10, and Monday-Friday, Nov. 15-19. The non-credit class meets 3 to 7 p.m. Cost per session is $110.

Young drivers will learn safe driving techniques through lectures, class discussion, guest speakers, and films that cover Nevada driving regulations, basic vehicle control, and driving maneuvers in various situations and environments. Nevada law requires new drivers under age 18 to take a 30-hour New Driver Education course if one is offered within 30 miles of their home.

The program focuses on key areas where young drivers lack skill: poor visual search habits; inattention; improper management of speed and space; and lack of patience. Speakers will present information on local hazards and issues, insurance and vehicle and tire safety precautions.
