Parade: The Capital Minstrel street parade from the Opera House will be stupendous in the extreme, grand in its outline, wonderfully dazzling in its magnificence, gorgeous in its famous and beautifully arrayed musicians and beyond all powers of conception in the symmetry of its inspiring grandeurs and wealth and will positively appear on the main thoroughfares of Nevada's Capital.

70 YEARS AGO

Girdle racket: "Girls" between 32 and 36 years old have worked the "girdle" racket on more than 100 California drug stores. The "girdle girls," so-called because one of them confesses to the drug store that she is in acute trouble with her girdle - and begs permission to step behind the prescription counter to make necessary adjustments, then filches narcotics from the prescription cases.

50 YEARS AGO

Advertisement: "Carson Theater: 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' with Archie Moore and Eddie Hodges - The most exciting adventures a boy ever had."

30 YEARS AGO

Prime rates: The nation's major bank lowered the prime rates they charge most credit worthy corporate customers half a point as a general move toward 17 percent. Analysts said they expected the key rate, which had soared to a near record 201⁄2 percent earlier this year.

10 YEARS AGO

Donation: Gold Dust Commercial Associates donated $25,000 toward the completion of the purchase of St. Teresa's Church building by the Brewery Arts Center. "We are thrilled to have Gold Dust Commercial's support for this project," according to Joe McCarthy, executive director of the Brewery Arts Center.

130 YEARS AGO

Imported Smallpox: Four counties in California have become infected with smallpox imported via the Central Pacific railroad from Chicago. The State Board of Health is suggesting overland emigrant trains be inspected at Truckee and if any persons be found to present evidences of variola, the car of passengers, be quarantined, the cars disinfected and all passengers undergo compulsory vaccination gratuitously.
