CHS JV wrestlers shine in Hug event

Several Carson High wrestlers were able to place at the Hug JV Tournament this past weekend.

CHS wrestlers who placed included Anthony Torkeo, who went 4-1 to take third at 160 pounds, Caleb Jeffers, who went 3-2 to take fourth at 171 and Nick Poole, who was fourth at 140.

Signups going on for adult men's basketball

The Carson City Recreation Department is now accepting registration for its men's basketball league.

Registration will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through January 4 at the Carson City Community Center office. Cost is $350 per team

There will be an open division that will play on Monday and Wednesday nights and an over 30 division that will play on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Baseball clinic for Toys for Tots slated

Gamer Baseball and the WB Baseball and Softball Training Center will hold a clinic to benefit Toys for Tots.

The clinic will be held Sunday, Dec. 16 at the WB Baseball and Softball Training Center, 3865 Mira Loma Drive, Suite 104, Reno. A session will be held for ages 7-10 from 9 a.m.-noon and another session will be held for ages 11-13 from 1-4 p.m.

Mail-in registration costs $20 and online registration costs $25. Participants are also required to bring a toy for Toys for Tots on the day of the clinic.

Possible instructors for the clinic include Todd Coburn, former pro player in the Philadelphia Phillies orgranization; Aaron Demosthenes, owner of WB Baseball and Softball Training Center, who also scouts for the Colorado Rockies and has served as a hitting coach for Western Nevada College; Joe Genung, founder of the Reno Baseball Institute; Reed High coach Jon Foss; and Jason Olson, a former pro player with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
