BAWN to unveil economic impact results today, Thursday

The economic impact of the building industry in Douglas County, the Builders Association of Western Nevada in cooperation with the University of Nevada's Nevada Small Business Development Center will release results of a recent economic study during two presentations this week.

The first presentation is 6 p.m. today at the Gold Dust West Carson City, Highway 50 East, in the Juniper Room. The second showing will be 6 p.m. Thursday at the CVIC Hall on Esmeralda Street in downtown Minden, behind the former Minden Inn, which now houses the Douglas County government offices. The public is welcome.

CarsonCity Library will be closed Friday

The Carson City Library will be closed Friday because workers and volunteers will be meeting to plan for future needs and endeavors.

The library will reopen at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Regular hours for the library are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library is at the corner of Roop and Washington Streets.

'Explore Bolivia' to appear on Thursday

Carson City Library will present "Explore Bolivia" @ Your Library at 7 p.m. Thursday in the library's auditorium. Margery Marshall will present the informational program on Bolivia. She has traveled extensively throughout the South American country.

CHS marching band summer program set

Join Carson High School's Blue Thunder Marching Band for its first annual "Sounds of Summer" band program 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 14, 16, 21, 23 in the CHS Band Room.

The program offers one-on-one tutoring, marching, mentoring, music, lunch and a T-shirt for $30. The program is available to any band student entering fifth through eighth grades in the fall.

Memory Walk committee meeting to be held Friday

The Alzheimer's Association Capitol City Memory Walk committee will hold a planning luncheon at noon Friday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

New members are welcome. The committee is seeking volunteers and planners to help with the Memory Walk.

Asthma education topic of hospital program

Asthma Education Program, 9 a.m. Saturday in the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Bristlecone Room. Patients, family members, and caregivers are invited to learn more about treatment and other topics, including: what is asthma, treating asthma, learning how to use a peak flow meter (supplied), and asthma triggers. DAWG tag (yard) sale set for Friday and Saturday

Douglas Animal Welfare Group will hold its sixth DAWG tag (yard) sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1041 Arrowhead Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos. New items will be added the second day.

Items for sale range from a 2000 Mercedes ML 320 (SUV) to books, toys and vintage costume jewelry.

The sale, by volunteers from DAWG and the Douglas/Alpine Thrivent Group, will raise funds for DAWG, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the adoptability of animals at the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

The car is fully loaded, has automatic transmission and leather interior, and is being offered for $12,500. A portion of its sale will benefit DAWG.
