For the first time in 20 years the Nevada Central railroad has been blocked by snow. The train was held for some 24 hours until a relief train arrived with food and supplies.

70 YEARS AGO

One third of the National Guard Hall collapsed during the night in Virginia City. The ancient building, which had been condemned last year, had stood since the 1870s. The entire city was awakened by the noise of the cave-in.

50 YEARS AGO

20 YEARS AGO

Eagle Valley Junior High School cheerleaders took first place for the third year at cheerleader competition held during the South Lake Tahoe 8th grade Boys Basketball Tournament. The cheerleaders are led by Jackie Green.

10 YEARS AGO

Three hundred thousand endangered trout were destroyed recently at the federal fish hatchery in Gardnerville to stop the spread of bacteria Furun-

culosis. Although not deadly in the wild, the bacteria killed some 80,000 of the fish in one day in the hatchery.
