Library thanks its volunteers

We are so very fortunate to have a stellar group of community minded people who give their time and talent to perform all manner of tasks to the benefit of library users. These duties include shelving books, processing new materials, cutting out and assembling crafts for story time, helping with special events, and anything else that pops up and needs attention. Last year volunteers contributed a total of 2,309 hours of their valuable time to the library. This is a total of 58 weeks. In monetary terms this is 13.5 months of a full time employee. I think that’s incredible and I thank you for your time and effort.

Three arrested in connection with meth lab in Carson City

Three men were arrested in connection with a mobile meth lab Friday night in Carson City. Frazier Young, 29, of Reno; Jeremy Fogelson, 29, of Gardnerville; and Jonathan Denning, 29, of Carson City were arrested on suspicion of felony manufacturing methamphetamine, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony conspiracy to violate the uniformed crime act and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies conducted a consensual stop at the Edmonds Drive Jackpot Crossing Casino.

Nevada Transportation Authority investigator arrested again

The Nevada Transportation Authority agent who was arrested earlier this year was arrested again Wednesday on drug charges. Robert Reasoner, 36, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, on suspicion of felony conspiracy to violate controlled substance act, felony DUI-third offense and felony offer/agree/or arrange to sell a controlled substance after Reasoner allegedly financed and attempted to gain possession of three grams of heroin near the 4500 block of North Carson Street, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. At the scene, it was determined Reasoner had driven there under the influence of narcotics.

Deadline to enroll in Nevada Prepaid Tuition program drawing near

March 31 is the deadline for Nevada families to enroll in the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program. After that date, enrollment in the program will be closed until next fiscal year dates are approved by the College Savings Board.

Fernley man faces 12 years for assault of officer

A Fernley man could face up to 12 years in prison after being convicted for eluding and assault on a peace officer. Jeremy Random, 39, was convicted Jan. 30 for eluding a peace officer, assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. Each count carries a sentence of 28 to 72 months in prison, with the first two counts running consecutively.

Amendment would replace pardons board with clemency board

Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, is calling for a constitutional amendment that would replace the pardons board with a clemency board. Under existing law, the Pardons Board consists of the governor, attorney general and members of the Nevada Supreme Court.

Nevada Transportation Authority investigator faces discipline in hit and run case

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Nevada Transportation Authority agent following a hit and run crash while on duty last month. According to police reports, at 3:05 p.m. on Jan. 5, Robert Reasoner, 36, allegedly hit a parked Honda CR-V with his state-issued Ford Explorer in the 500 block of John Street.
