A pasta dish that isn't subtle about its garlic

Garlic isn't a subtle ingredient, so why be subtle when using it?

Best Buffalo Wings touch down for Super Bowl parties

According to the lore, Teressa Bellissimo was just trying to satisfy her hungry son and his friends. So on that 1964 night in Buffalo, N.Y., she tossed leftover chicken parts into the fryer at Anchor Bar, then doused them with hot sauce.

Hard times call for comfort food

I love it when fads and trends go full cycle, from popularity to obscurity and back again. Things like lava lamps, Lincoln Logs and short skirts. There's something vindicating about seeing people running around in platform shoes again.

Fourth Graders ask for information from Nevada

The Fourth Grade at Aviston Elementary, located in southern Illinois, is learning about the United Staes and the different environments, climates, resources, and highlights found in each region. The kids in the class think it would be fun to receive postcards, souvenirs, resources, or any information about our great country from each of the 50 states.

Commentary: What's a billion here or there among friends?

Hooo-weeee! You'd have thought somebody'd kicked a puppy to hear all the squealing and cater wauling coming from the bleeding heart, tax-and-spend, redistributionist socialist liberals over what amounts to less than a 10 percent "cut" in the budget; not the widely reported 34 percent or the astro nomical $2.5 billion cut we've been reading about.

Letters to the editor

Golden opportunities are here to keep, recruit quality employees

I continue to be surprised by the number of calls and e-mails we get from business owners and managers who are struggling to recruit and retain members of the younger generations. No one seems interested in a technique or two to keep older workers around.

The scene at D'Vine Wine last Wednesday night might have reminded some of a college bar, with people standing around socializing and trying to squeeze through the capacity crowd to order drinks.

Food you can live (better) with

Well, it's a new year and I'm ready for some change. Not the kind that jingles in your pocket but something I can live with and feel good about incorporating into my daily and weekly routine. Like everyone else I'm sick of the "D" word and just wish I could magically be thinner, smarter, healthier and younger, but I'm only going to work on the middle two. I know that if you really want to eat healthier you have to cook because then you're in charge of what goes in each dish and how it's prepared.

Never at a loss for stories that embarrass

alk about depressing. No, not the sorry state of the economy or the fact housing prices are in the dumper. I'm upset because not a single Clark County commissioner was arrested in 2008. Talk about a slow year. Fortunately, state government did more than its share.

Letters to the Editor

In reference to "when Is the little guy going to get a break", I say, as soon as we stand up and stop taking what and who "those we have elected" say and do. I believe more of us have to get Involved and stand up for ourselves. We have proved we have had enough with electing "Senator Obama" as our next president.
